Frequently asked questions
What is a construction product passport?
The EU DPP framework applied to construction products: a persistent digital record of product, performance, environmental and lifecycle information, with different access for manufacturers, customers, contractors and authorities.
When do construction DPPs become mandatory?
There is no single date. Requirements apply progressively as the Commission adopts technical specifications or delegated acts per product family, following the CPR working plan.
Does the full passport need to be stored in the EU DPP Registry?
No. The central registry holds identifiers and registration information, not the full dataset. Construction-specific arrangements depend on the CPR delegated rules.
How does a construction DPP connect to BIM or a Digital Building Logbook?
The DPP describes the product; BIM and logbooks organise building-level data. Linking the product identifier to the BIM object lets product data feed design and environmental calculations through the asset’s life.
Is all information in the construction DPP public?
No. Public product data can be separated from commercially sensitive, technical or authority-only information.
